Announcing a new webinar series from the Local Government Center – Sustaining Communities Through Philanthropy
The Local Government Center is announcing a new webinar series focusing on transfer of wealth and sustaining communities through philanthropy. Each bimonthly, one-hour interactive presentation features an author from the Spring 2012 Montana Policy Review.
The first webinar will take place Wednesday, September 5 at 11 a.m. MST. Larry Swanson, Director of the O’Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West in Missoula, will present Aging Patterns and Impending Growth in Montana’s Elderly.
Webinar description: The U.S. population as a whole is aging – with some states, including Montana, aging faster than others. And, within Montana, some areas are aging faster than others – particularly ones with slow-growing or declining populations where there has been persistent net out-migration and deaths outpace births. This aging cycle originated with the ballooning of births in the ten to fifteen years after WWII. Almost all of Montana’s net population growth between 2020 and 2030 will be by persons over 65 as this aging cycle continues. Larry Swanson, a Ph.D. economist and Director of the O’Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West, will explore these trends, their magnitude and regional variability, and also examine what they may mean for our future economy, educational systems, healthcare needs, and other important facets of life in our region.
