Wednesday April 25, 2012
2 – 3 pm EDT / 12 – 1 pm MDT
Sponsored by the Intermountain West Funder Network
A number of funders are investing in community engagement in small towns and rural communities across the West and throughout the country. These funders bring considerable resources in order to help engage a wide spectrum of local community members in defining shared values and creating a community vision. These communities are often energized and committed to implementing their plans, and face challenges in doing so after the initial investments are complete.
Please join us for a teleconference Wednesday, April 25th, as our two presenters share lessons learned from communities going through this key transition. Steven Ames, the author of the forthcoming "Stewarding the Future of our Communities: Case Studies in Sustaining Community Engagement and Planning in America’s Small Cities and Towns" (which will be available in draft form to participants shortly before the call), has distilled information from 20 diverse communities across the country. Steven will share some of the stories from these case studies and provide 25 key elements of stewarding a community over time.
Jacob Smith is the former mayor of Golden, Colorado, and works as the Director of the PlaceMatters Institute. Jacob will highlight some of his experiences from the community’s perspective and some of the medium and longer term effects of the investment the Orton Foundation’s Heart & Soul program made in Golden.
We hope you will join us for this learning opportunity.
