Senator Baucus reflects on his job and his future

He doesn’t really look like one of the most powerful men in Washington, but as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and a 36 year veteran of Capitol Hill, Montana’s Senior Senator Max Baucus http://baucus.senate.gov/ is exactly that.

His career in Washington started with two terms in the U.S. House. He’s been a fixture in the U.S. Senate since 1978, serving longer than any other U.S. Senator from Montana

At 69 years old, Baucus has spent nearly half his life in Congress. He credits former President John F. Kennedy for striking a tone about service to one’s country, that for Baucus has turned into a political career – equal to any in Montana history.

"He really captured the optimism and spirit of country," recalled Baucus.
