Global warming could bring on colder winters.

Several new studies — most recently that of physicist Vladimir Petoukhov and colleagues in Germany and Russia, reporting in the Journal of Geophysical Research — have been pointing to a warming Arctic to explain recent severely cold winters in the Northern Hemisphere.
It may sound pretty crazy at first — the idea that global warming could bring on colder winters. But that’s because, to my way of thinking, we give the wrong name to what really is going on around us. Our changing climate isn’t all about temperatures.
