LinkedIn memberships edge Twitter, but each can help the other grow

The number of profiles on the professional social networking site LinkedIn have grown by 300 percent since 2008, according to a new report by Edison Research/Arbitron Internet and Multimedia http://www.edisonresearch.com/home/archives/2010/05/are_you_linkedin.php .

And while Americans are far more aware of Twitter than they are of LinkedIn, about 8 percent have LinkedIn profiles, compared to 7 percent who say they are tweeters, according to a blog post by Tom Webster, vice president of strategy and marketing at Edison Research.

"We’ve seen LinkedIn continue to be the "little engine that could" in comparison to Facebook and Twitter," Webster said.
