You are invited to attend an informational meeting(s) for local elected officials (and candidates for the positions) on August 4, 5 and/or 12, in the communities identified above. The economic development meeting will be held to discuss the services of SMDC, some key issues that will come before the 2009 session of the Montana Legislature, and to receive input on other economic development programs or services needed in the region.

SMDC Board of Directors and staff are committed to making a difference in the economy of the region through a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, clearly identified goals and objectives and performance measures. We plan to share information about the services and programs provided by SMDC and to offer input and feedback regarding the needs within the area.

There is a “basket” of economic development programs and tools that are included in state statute that will terminate on June 30, 2010 unless the 2009 Legislature votes to remove this “sunset”. We’ll present an overview of these programs for your understanding.

The agenda for the one hour meeting will be as follows:

· Overview of SMDC organization, services provided – Kathie Bailey, Executive Director

· Description of Bio-Products Innovation Center program – Terry Huff, BPIC Coordinator

· Business technical assistance and gap financing opportunities – Bob Giese, Business Development Director

· Brownfields, Business Expansion and Retention Program (BEAR), Workforce Training programs – Carrie Mantooth, Planning & Marketing Director

· Upcoming legislative issues – Kathie

· Feedback from local elected officials
