End run on Schultz brought us sweet treat
Along with being a Starbucks Corp. board member and a former executive, Howard Behar on Wednesday morning let about 200 people in on a little secret: He’s also a rabble-rouser.
Behar, speaking at the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce breakfast in downtown Seattle, drew plenty of chuckles when he shared the origins of the Frappuccino, a popular cold beverage for Starbucks.
Employees in Santa Monica, Calif., created the drink in the early 1990s, Behar said, but there was strong resistance at the company headquarters in Seattle — including opposition from the company’s leader, Howard Schultz.
