Elk River, Idaho receives $162K Community Connect Grant to build a community-wide wireless mesh network developed by Access Consulting of Missoula, MT

The Elk River Free Library District was selected for a USDA RUS Community Connect Broadband Grant for the amount of $162,941.00 for a wireless network system.

The system, designed by Paul DeWolfe, P.E., of Access Consulting http://www.access-consulting.net , covers the entire community and connects several critical facilities and the library. The library will become an Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the city of Elk River, providing broadband access to the residents of the community at reasonable prices.

Critical facilities will receive service free of charge for two years. Additionally, the grant provides for the library’s expansion with a new computer laboratory and 10 new patron computers. Grant recipients can be viewed at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/rd/newsroom/2006/CC2006Web.pdf
