The Unwired Future, On Hold
Last week, in a presentation to the annual meeting of the Wireless Communications Association http://www.wcai.com/event/06/is12gen.htm , Michael Gallagher, who heads the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), stood up and made the sort of bald-faced assertions http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=ZXSSEMUSEIIRQQSNDBESKHA?articleID=177101650 that Bush Administration officials seem to specialize in. Gallagher boasted about the Administration’s "aggressive" efforts to free up radio-frequency spectrum for the broadband wireless technology known as "WiMax," stating that these efforts will keep the U.S. "one step ahead" of Europe and Asia in the deployment of universal broadband Internet access.
In fact, the government has been about as aggressive on this front as the Broncos’ defense was on third-and-long against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
