MSU responding to new regents’ goals ~ improving the state’s economy is high on the list.

The Montana Board of Regents has set out three major goals for the University System to pursue, and improving the state’s economy is high on the list.

Montana State University administrators say the Bozeman campus is already working hard to boost the economy and create high-paying jobs.

Now MSU administrators and professors are busy compiling lists to show the regents what MSU is already doing, as well as collecting ideas for new initiatives that might cost money.

Some have expressed concerns, however, that any new programs might take money away from existing programs, rather than getting new money from the Legislature.

And some faculty are concerned that, in the push for economic results, the arts and humanities could be undervalued.
