MSU Researchers hope to reduce ‘greenhouse gas’ emissions

For generations, people have eyed the vast coal deposits of eastern Montana and calculated the wealth.

Roughly one-quarter of the nation’s coal is buried there. Digging it up and burning it would create thousands of jobs and provide millions of homes and businesses with electricity.

Others look to the coalfields and see problems, principally the widespread pollution associated with burning coal.

Now, a research team headquartered at Montana State University is working on a solution that, if proven feasible, could reduce the emissions from coal-fired plants to almost nothing.
