Special Web sites help Montana students explore career options

With a click of a mouse, high school students and their parents can explore careers, learn about job prospects in Montana and look at colleges and training programs.

The Great Falls Public Schools subscribe to a pair of Web sites that let users do everything from taking quizzes about their interests to reading interviews with people already working in careers.

Now the Web sites can be accessed from any computer instead of only those at the schools.

"These are great tools for parents to use with their kids to look at different career options," said Jerry Kuntz, a counselor at C.M. Russell High School. "I tell our juniors and seniors who are still undecided about a profession that a career isn’t going to just fall out of the sky; you have to look around."

The Montana Career Information System site has information on occupations, such as wages and the outlook for jobs in Montana.

Montana Career Information System provides Montana-specific information about careers, schools and training programs. The Web site is http://www.mtcis.intocareers.org.
