Share and share alike WiFi comes to CdA

Wireless network to provide Internet to remote areas

COEUR d’ALENE — A good host can make an ordinary party great. People who like to party on the Internet now have a chance to become host for the entire neighborhood.

With a little steel box not much bigger than a satellite telephone, residents of areas with little or no access to the Internet can not only receive a high-speed wireless signal in their own home, they can pass the service on to their neighbors.

"We daisy-chain them and they talk together," said Luke Griffin, president of Intermax Networks Inc. of Coeur d’Alene, the company that has since summer provided downtown Coeur d’Alene with a similar wireless network. "For $25 they’ll get a true hot-spot service with cable and DSL speed."
