MSU College of Letters and Science announces spring speaker series

Native American poet Simon Ortiz, a member of President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers and an expert on the Cassini Space Mission to Saturn are the speakers for this spring’s Landscapes of the Mind lecture series sponsored by the Montana State University College of Letters and Science.

Ortiz, a professor of writing and literature at the University of Toronto and a well-published Native American poet, will lecture on "Out There Somewhere: A Native Sense of Experience" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 in the Strand Union Building ballroom. Ortiz, an Acoma Indian, is the author of more than 10 volumes of poetry and several collections of short stories. His most recent book, "Out There Somewhere," will be available at the lecture for purchase and signing.

Randall Kroszner, faculty member at the University of Chicago and a member of President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers, will speak at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25 at the MSU Foundation and Alumni Building, 1501 South 11th Ave. His lecture, "Corporate Governance and US Economic Performance: A View from the Council of Economic Advisors," will focus on the Bush administration’s policy response to the high-profile accounting scandals of Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, and others. A reception will follow the lecture.

David Atkinson from the University of Idaho will speak on the Cassini Space Mission to Saturn at an April date to be announced closer to the event.
