Native American Business Center opens in Albuquerque

With the nation’s largest concentration of American Indian tribes centered in the Four Corners region, Albuquerque has been selected as the site of the new Native American Business Center, an office of the U.S. General Services Administration.

While New Mexico pueblos with gaming and diversified enterprieses are rising above the otherwise poor economic conditions in rural northern New Mexico, Indian tribes in nearby northern Arizona continue to have some of the highest unemployment rates in the nation.

Stephen A. Perry, administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration, joined with tribes at the open house of the Native American Business Center at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in October.

Eddie L. Kephart, appointed director of the Native American Business Center on Aug. 8, coordinates Native American and Alaska Native activities throughout all 11 regions.
