Zilog announces closure date for Nampa, ID plant

Zilog Inc., a high-tech company that has been manufacturing computer components in Nampa since 1979, will close its doors permanently June 23.

The closing, which will put 147 employees out of work, was announced more than a year ago but no date was set at the time.

The plant is the California-based company’s last remaining manufacturing facility. After it closes, the company will contract all of its manufacturing needs to plants in Texas and overseas.

In its heyday, Zilog employed more than 500 people at two Nampa locations.

The Idaho Department of Labor received notice of the closure on Thursday, a legal requirement when a large employer completely shuts down operations or lays off a large percentage of employees.

Mike Henetz, a process engineer who has been with Zilog for 14 years, said: "I’m going to look for a new job, but I’ll probably see a 40 percent cut in pay.
