Washington Foundation Gifts $1 Million for Montana State University Scholarships

The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation donated $1 million to create a permanent scholarship endowment at Montana State University.

This gift established the D.A. Peressini Legacy Scholarship Fund, designed to support Montana students by covering four years of tuition and fees for incoming resident freshmen at MSU. The scholarship honors Donald and Daniel Peressini, father and son engineers and MSU alumni with longstanding ties to Washington Construction Co.

Administered by the MSU Alumni Foundation, the fund is part of a broader pattern of educational philanthropy by the Washington Foundation, which has made six gifts or grants to MSU in the past year, including a $4.8 million gift for Gallatin College building construction last March. Jon Bennion, executive director of the Washington Foundation, emphasized the legacy of education and civic engagement embodied by the Peressinis. The scholarship will be awarded annually, although the timeline for the first award has not been specified.
