The Transportation Security Administration is considering a policy change that would allow TSA PreCheck travelers to carry full water bottles through checkpoints at airports equipped with newer computed tomography screening technology. PreCheck members, who pay up to $85 for five years of expedited screening, would benefit first. Although the technology exists, TSA officials told CBS News that funding constraints have prevented a nationwide rollout. The current 3-1-1 liquids rule, limiting containers to 3.4 ounces, remains in effect elsewhere. This initiative follows the recent launch of the Gateside by TSA program at 13 airports, aimed at improving passenger flow.

The rollout of water bottle allowances could occur in the coming months, with TSA planning to evaluate passenger volumes and operational impacts before expanding the program.
