Top 5 states to make a living in 2016

Middle of America, perfectly rectangularly-shaped, home to Harrison Ford, Dick Cheney and zero major professional sports teams, Wyoming takes the lead this year for best state to make a living.

"They have a very powerful combination in terms of putting worthwhile dollars in your pocket. The median income in Wyoming is higher than in the typical state, so you’re taking in more money," said Richard Barrington, senior financial analyst for MoneyRates.com. "The cost of living is significantly lower than the national average, so the money you take in is going further, and then finally, there’s no state income tax, so you get to keep what you make. That’s a powerful combination."
