This week, you may have seen a flurry of headlines about a serious security vulnerability that affects basically every website you know and use.

And this is a huge issue. The vulnerability affects one of the programming languages, PHP, that underpin much of the modern internet.

While this is an urgent problem for anyone who has their own website, there isn’t a setting that you can enable or an iOS update that you can install to address the issue — website owners have to patch the problem themselves. But there are steps that everyone can take to stay safe online.
