Montana’s Legislative Transportation Interim Committee Considering Autonomous Vehicle Legislation

  • PD 68 (formerly PD 65): An act providing for the use of autonomous vehicles on state public highways
  • PD 66: An act allowing the platooning of vehicles

The Transportation Interim Committee’s draft committee legislation is now posted to the committee’s webpage: https://leg.mt.gov/committees/interim/tic/meeting-info/
Thank you for your patience as staff has been working through some system issues to get them ready.

Draft legislation includes:

  • PD 60: Generally revising Title 60 for clarity and consistency
  • PD 61: Generally revising Title 61 for clarity and consistency
  • PD 68 (formerly PD 65): An act providing for the use of autonomous vehicles on state public highways
  • PD 66: An act allowing the platooning of vehicles

Please note that an additional provisional draft related to PD 61 will be also considered by the committee on September 4:
PD 62: Generally revising title 61, chapter 8, for consistency and clarity
https://leg.mt.gov/content/Committees/Interim/2023-2024/Transportation/Meetings/September-2024/PD0062_JC_with.paved.shoulder.pdf
This provisional draft concerns the definition of highway shoulder, as discussed during the committee’s May 8 meeting; the agenda has been updated to reflect this addition.
