Montana Governor Steve Bullock hangs COVID inaction on lack of federal relief funds

Montana Wears Masks
“We need Montanans to follow public health guidelines and to stay home as much as possible. Wear a mask, skip that gathering, go home after work and stay home, and support your local restaurant with takeout. These are the best weapons we have this winter.
Public health experts, doctors, and nurses have been joining me at press conferences for months to try to raise the alarm about rapidly rising COVID-19 cases. That alarm is undoubtedly ringing loud. It is going to be a long and challenging winter for our state and nation.
For months, I have been honest about the challenges we face here in Montana with implementing further statewide restrictions. The lack of a federal response and Congressional inaction in passing additional relief for Americans exacerbates our challenges. However, until my last day in office, my administration will fight to limit the spread and save lives. I want to set up the next administration for success by continuing to build up our testing supplies and capacity, stockpiling PPE, and filling personnel requests for health care workers.
But our success depends on all of us. Stay home as much as possible. Do it for those working in our crowded hospitals so you can still get care, for the businesses trying to be safe, for kids who rely on schools, and for parents working to keep the heat on and food on the table.”

As Montana’s COVID-19 case toll continues to mount, Gov. Steve Bullock said Thursday he is wary of imposing stricter statewide restrictions to limit the spread of the virus without additional federal aid to unemployed individuals and small businesses.

“I never wanted to punish the businesses that are doing right in this pandemic to keep their employees and customers safe. Shutting down those businesses would do just that,” he said during a news conference.
