Mathematicians have solved traffic jams, and they’re begging cities to listen – Reserve Street Community Input Forum Jan 29

Reserve Street

Most traffic jams are unnecessary, and this deeply irks mathematicians who specialize in traffic flow. They reserve particular vitriol for local transport engineers. “They do not have competencies in the field of system-related increases in traffic performance,” says Alexander Krylatov, a mathematics professor at St. Petersburg University. “If engineers manage to achieve local improvements, after a while the flows rearrange and the same traffic jams appear in other places.” Burn!

Welcome to the Reserve Street Community Input Project!  Please continue to visit this site for periodic updates, notice of upcoming public meetings, and related information.

The Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization is engaging in a transparent, community-informed process to answer the question, “What will improve people’s experience with Reserve Street?”  This process will identify variables related to safety, access, comfort, and livability while understanding the current experiences and expectations of area residents, shoppers, employees, and other Reserve Street users.

Let’s Improve Missoula’s Reserve Street

There are several ways to get involved with this project.  On January 29th, attend the Reserve Street Community Input Forum, at the Best Western Plus Grant Creek Inn (5280 Grant Creek Road) from 5:45 – 8:00 pm.  Community member check in will begin at 5:45 pm and the forum will begin at 6:00 pm.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn about issues that impact their Reserve Street experience.  In addition, there will be several interactive stations where participants can share their experiences, including a graphic artist who will create visual representations of Reserve Street based on attendee input.  The forum will help to identify barriers and other factors which affect positive and negative experiences of the corridor.  Beverages and light snacks provided.
