Lattice Materials is expanding with an $18.5 million government-backed facility in Montana.

Lattice Materials, the nation’s leading manufacturer of specialty lenses and windows for the U.S. defense industry, has announced a major expansion in Gallatin Valley. This development underscores a long-term structural commitment to the Bozeman region that dates back to 1989.

The company held a groundbreaking ceremony in early April 2026 for an 80,000-square-foot facility north of Bozeman, with construction slated to start next month. The new site, supported by an $18.5 million investment from the U.S. government, is expected to open next spring. Lattice Materials President Travis Wood and Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte attended the event, highlighting the partnership between the company and state leadership. The company has been growing crystals for 37 years, anchoring its presence in the area.

Work is expected to begin next month, aiming for completion and opening in the spring of the following year.

While the announcement does not specify how this expansion will affect Montana’s local economy, it could reinforce the region’s role in high-tech manufacturing. Montana’s geographic position and business climate might continue to attract specialized industry players seeking stable, long-term operations.
