‘It’s completely wreaking havoc’: Phone ban in Bay Area schools off to a rough start

Thousands of high school students in the Bay Area started the school year on Thursday — without their cellphones.

At Mt. Diablo and Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord, students are now required to store their phone and earbuds in a pouch that, once locked, can only be unlocked at the end of the day, or in an emergency, by a special device teachers and administration have access to.

These bags, called Yondr pouches, were distributed to students at Mt. Diablo High School during orientation, senior Niki Klosinski told ABC7, but the transition on the first day of school has not been smooth.
