In the quest for jobs, confusion over their worth
Before we can have a productive discussion about business incentives for job growth, we must first agree on the value of a job. Determining job value will help define appropriate incentive investment.
Practitioners of economic development and municipal leadership clamor for incentives to help drive business recruitment, retention and expansion in Washington. Some states use aggressive incentive programs like generous work-force training credits, property tax abatements, tax increment financing and, in some cases, cold hard cash to entice business to their region.
