House bill extending Montana economic development programs clears Legislature

sunshine

A bill delaying the sunset on seven state economic development programs passed the Legislature on Thursday, now requiring only the signature of Gov. Steve Bullock to receive funding for the next eight years.

House Bill 52 carried by Rep. Jim Keane, D-Butte, would eliminate funding for the Department of Commerce’s Research and Commercialization program and distribute its annual $1.2 million among five development programs within the Department of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture. Those five programs, and two others, would be extended through the end of fiscal 2027.
