‘Horses can’t lie’: Montana universities adopt new approaches to address mental health – Natural Horsemanship class just one of the offerings at University of Montana Western in Dillon

Starting this fall at Montana State University Billings, a new option for therapy that has been used to treat veterans and families for years now hopes to do the same for students.

Stress and anxiety are nothing new on university campuses. But recent studies and metrics show that student mental health is declining at an alarming rate and universities across Montana are taking steps to address it.

The University of Montana Western’s Sixth Annual Colt Challenge and Sale, held April 1 and 2 at the Montana Center for Horsemanship, generated more than $200,000 for the UMW Natural Horsemanship Program.

The Montana Center for Horsemanship is known for having the nation’s first and only Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Horsemanship, affiliated degrees and new academic degrees currently in development in collaboration with Montana Western (University).

Through the four year program they learn various skills and then, in turn can teach and share those skills with others.

University of Montana Western in Dillon offers students the ability to receive a BS in Natural Horsemanship.

This is a huge story with national/international implications in natural horsemanship.
