Great Falls Works to Attract Janicki for $800 Million Aerospace Deal and 1,000 Jobs

The city of Great Falls is proposing tax incentives to lure Janicki, an aerospace company based in Washington, for a new manufacturing facility. This move underscores the strategic use of local tax policies to compete for major industrial developments.

Janicki could bring about 1,000 jobs and more than $800 million in investment to a property northwest of Malmstrom Air Force Base, within the East Industrial Park tax increment financing (TIF) district. The city’s incentive plan mirrors a 2022 agreement with Montana Renewables, involving phased tax abatements over ten years. Janicki’s four major projects would each receive their own 10-year tax incentive clock. Tax payments from Janicki would contribute to the TIF district fund rather than the general fund, according to Great Falls officials. The city council and Cascade County commissioners will discuss these incentives on May 12, ahead of Janicki’s intended location announcement in late May.

Looking ahead, Janicki’s four projects are scheduled for completion between 2029 and 2035.

While Montana is not specifically mentioned as Janicki’s final choice, the state’s willingness to offer structured tax incentives might be a factor the aerospace firm considers in its decision. Montana’s land and industrial parks could potentially offer infrastructure and economic conditions that companies like Janicki might find attractive when considering large-scale manufacturing investments.
