Governor tours Livingston, Montana non-profit meat processor Producer Partnership.

Producer Partnership

Matt Pierson, founder and president of Producer Partnership, the only federally U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspected nonprofit meat processing facility in the U.S., guided the behind-the-scenes excursion through a modular kill floor and coolers.

The tour occurred amid the second month of the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history causing SNAP distribution delays and unprecedented food bank need. Approximately 85% of Producer Partnership processed meat is donated to Montana food banks, per Pierson.

The tour occurred amid the second month of the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history causing SNAP distribution delays and unprecedented food bank need. Approximately 85% of Producer Partnership processed meat is donated to Montana food banks, per Pierson.

Because the Producer Partnership is USDA inspected and certified, the meat the nonprofit processes can be sent to schools and food banks anywhere, per Pierson.

The nonprofit, which receives no state or federal funding, processed 350,000 pounds of meat since its founding in 2020. Pierson cited a goal to process 700,000 pounds of donated meat annually once the facility is fully operational.
