1) Berkshire Hathaway Energy Montana broke ground on the new 75-megawatt Glacier Battery System, located between Cut Bank and Shelby, to support Montana’s wind and solar energy generation. See: KRTV. This is the first of three renewable energy projects aimed at boosting economic growth in the region. The battery system, which will provide two hours of energy storage, will store excess wind power for days with less generation. The project brings approximately 70 contracted workers to the area and will be followed by a 1,000-acre solar park set to produce 100 megawatts of energy by 2026. A new office and control center in Great Falls will also open later this year, supporting 15 employees. Congratulations to BHE Montana and thank you for investing in our region!
2) We signed an agreement to purchase another 37.76 acres for the Great Falls AgriTech Park. The land will provide three lots for industrial businesses looking to start, expand or locate in Great Falls.
3) Cascade County Commissioner Joe Briggs, Great falls Area Chamber of Commerce President Ed Brown, and I travelled to DC to meet with USAF leaders in the Pentagon and staff leaders of Senators Tester and Daines to discuss Malmstrom AFB and the future Sentinel mission, representing the Defense Alliance. We also met with Northrup Grumman, Balfour Beatty, and the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation.
