‘Fly Butte Initiative’ airborne with hopes for additional flights

Wheels up! A fundraising campaign designed to land additional commercial flights to Butte is officially off the ground.

Dozens of people, including business representatives and county and economic development officials, gathered in the new passenger terminal at Bert Mooney Airport late Thursday afternoon to launch the “2019 Fly Butte Initiative.”

The goal is to raise enough money for a so-called “minimum revenue guarantee” — a commitment of funds to be set aside for an airline should it lose money on a new flight from Butte to a second destination city. Currently, commercial flights in Butte only go to and from Salt Lake City.
