FCC looking to help connect low-income homes to broadband

he Federal Communications Commission Tuesday took the first steps toward helping low-income Americans get broadband Internet service.

Some funding for broadband outreach pilot programs will come from savings within a plan, approved 3-0 today by the commission, to reform the Lifeline program. As part of the Universal Service Fund, Lifeline provides about 13.5 million Americans with discounted monthly phone service and phone installations.
