Coldwater Creek Changes – Idaho retailer expanding into nearly 200 stores by year’s end

Evolve or die. The mantra applies to business as much as nature, and at Coldwater Creek it’s a way of life.

The Sandpoint-based retailer, with call centers in Coeur d’Alene and Parkersburg, W. Va., has not only seen Internet-based sales quickly outstripping the catalog-based program that was its base when it opened in 1984, but is opening retail stores throughout the country. By the end of the year, 198 stores will be open, said Stacy Barney, training supervisor at the Coeur d’Alene center.

Technology has been a big part of the company’s success, with a large part of the upper floor of the center dedicated to information technology services, with many of that support team coming from employees within the company.

"We’re developing opportunities for continual redevelopment," Barney said.
