Bozeman’s rental market among most expensive

The price that renters pay per month in Bozeman is significantly higher than the rest of the state’s most populous areas, with median rent in Billings currently coming in at $1,431 per month, $1,395 per month in Missoula, $1,300 per month in Great Falls and $1,475 per month in Butte.

Currently, 19,559 households in Gallatin County are renters, and 88% of them make less than the area median income, according to the 2024 Gallatin Valley Housing Report.

“In communities where rents increase dramatically over a short period of time, you hemorrhage a lot of your citizens that were just barely getting by at that income,” said Bozeman Deputy Mayor Joey Morrison.
