Missoula Economic Partnership [MEP] and the Montana Governor’s Office of Economic Development [GOED] are pleased to announce that Bedrock, an adventure footwear manufacturing company, has decided to relocate their headquarters to Missoula, Montana. Bedrock’s HQ in Missoula will host office space for their growing team, a flagship store, and a workshop for in-house repairs + resoles.

“I am thrilled to welcome the Bedrock Sandals team to Montana,” said Governor Steve Bullock. I continue to believe Montana is the perfect home for outdoor gear manufacturers to grow their business, test their products, and live in landscapes that inspire and challenge each day. Bedrock is a great example of a company that not only wants to succeed in business, but become part of a community that supports their products and their employees and families.”

Bedrock is an outdoor adventure footwear manufacturing company that was born when co-founders Nick Pence and Dan Opalacz held field work jobs in Northern California with AmeriCorps. Currently located in a solar powered warehouse in the Bay Area, Bedrock is excited to make the move to Montana. “We wanted a place with better backyard access to rivers and mountains, a more affordable cost of living, and more seasons for testing and developing new footwear,” said Nick. “We looked for new landscapes to explore, a more sustainable atmosphere to continue building our homegrown business, and a better environment that suits our ethos and lifestyles. Missoula’s down to earth feel, outdoor recreation, and sense of community hit all the marks.”

“Bedrock is what we consider a best-fit business—one that builds long term success around great people, a great place, and a great product. It’s been a pleasure to get to know them and help them make Missoula their home,” commented Missoula Economic Partnership CEO Grant Kier. “We know Bedrock is great for Missoula and that Missoula is great for Bedrock, offering all the ingredients to ensure their growth and success, and we’re delighted to welcome them to our community.”

Being located in Montana will allow Bedrock to further expand and develop their product lines. “We’ve been hard at work on further iterations to our current line and future designs to allow for more year-round Bedrocking,” said Dan. “Be on the lookout for an exciting product launch early this March with more on the horizon.”

“I’m a huge fan of Bedrock Sandals, and excited to welcome Nick, Dan and their team to Montana,” said Rachel VandeVoort, Director of Montana Office of Outdoor Recreation. “Outdoor recreation has quickly grown to be a powerhouse in Montana, representing over 5% of our economy and $70 billion in annual consumer spending, while creating over 71,000 jobs. The Office of Outdoor Recreation is here to help companies like Bedrock leverage our unique ecosystem of skilled workers, public lands, and access to resources that sustain and inspire our best ideas.”

Bedrock will move their team to Missoula in early 2020, where they’ve begun forming partnerships and investing in the community. Big Sky Fulfillment, a Missoula distribution company, will handle inventory and distribution for Bedrock. Through their environmental stewardship “1% for the Planet” program, Bedrock has already started giving back to Missoula-based organizations like Clark Fork Coalition and Adventure Cycling.
