Basics of Business – Few succeed in business without first failing — often more than once. Troy McClain of "The Apprentice" speaks about his experiences to high school DECA students

Highlighted by the appearance of Troy McClain, "fired" by Donald Trump from his spot on the television show "The Apprentice," about 400 students participated in a "Create Your Own Destiny — Be an Entrepreneur" workshop Tuesday at Coeur d’Alene High School.

The program was organized by DECA students Sam Dane and Katie Davidson, both seniors at the school and project managers for the Entrepreneurship Promotion Project, and brought in business students from as far away as central Washington.

"The DECA students did an awesome job," McClain said. "Their persistence overcame my resistance."

(DECA is an outstanding program for high school students. Does your school have a program?)

Are we headed in the right direction?

McClain shared the story of his life and business failures, from Alaska to Boise to Spokane and back to Boise before joining the cast of "The Apprentice" in New York City.

He joined with several other successful local businesspeople sharing stories of the trials, tribulations and satisfaction of operating a successful business.
