Were you eligible for the Montana Property Tax Homestead Exemption, but missed the deadline to apply? Unsure about the enrollment status of your home? You may be eligible for a refund. Beginning on January 1, 2027 and extending through May 31, 2027, the Montana Department of Revenue will be issuing refunds for eligible properties that missed the Homestead Exemption in 2026. Check out the Department of Revenue’s website for all the details.

You can check your enrollment status now if your property has already received the reduced rate. If it has, there is nothing further you need to do.

If your property has not received the reduced rate, you may be eligible to receive a refund beginning on January 1, 2027.
