Last month’s speaker, Michael Gardner, shared his family story that motivated him to start TruePenny as a means by which Montanans can actually own the businesses that operate and serve Montana. Michael also described the long and challenging journey he has been through just to establish the legal framework for TruePenny to exist.

We know that it is a significant challenge for many Montana businesses to access the capital they need to grow, as they often fit somewhere between the growth requirements of angel and venture funding, while lacking the collateral that a bank would need. TruePenny seeks to fill that gap and help Montanans invest in Montana’s businesses and economy.

Paul Gladen said that while Michael’s talk “may not have been the best HVN pitch ever (it was still pretty darned good!), it might be the most important in terms of its potential impact on Montana’s entrepreneurial economy.”
