April Speaker Bio

Colin Hickey is a seasoned event professional with nearly two decades of experience in live events, community building, and the Creator Economy.

In his current role as the Senior Vice President of Operations at VidCon, Hickey is integral to the oversight of sponsorship sales and all event operations. Colin joined VidCon in October 2013 when he was hired as the organization’s first full-time employee. For the past decade, he has helped strategically manage VidCon’s transformation from a modest fan event to a globally recognized live event brand. Additionally, he played a vital role in the sale of VidCon to Paramount in 2018.

Prior to his tenure at VidCon, Hickey served as the Chief Product Officer at Subbable, Hank Green’s creator subscriber-based crowdfunding platform. In that role, he oversaw all facets of the platform, demonstrating strategic acumen that ultimately led to a successful exit through a merger with Patreon.

Hickey has also served as the Marketing and Events Director for the Missoula Downtown Partnership and co-founded GatherBoard, a local events-based online platform serving 30 communities across North America.

Colin attended the University of Wyoming. He is an active member of the Visit Anaheim Advisory Board and the PCMA North America Advisory Board. He lives in Missoula, MT with his three children and two cats. He was also a rockstar in another life, but we’ll save that for later.
