City Club Missoula Presents:

High Property Taxes? Here’s Why!

City Club Missoula presents a conversation regarding property taxes in Montana and how they impact our communities on a local, county, and statewide level, particularly with our public education system. Montana law requires counties to levy a county equalization levy of 55 mills, a state equalization levy of 40 mills (often referred to together as the 95 mills) for K-12 schools, and 6 mills for the university system against all taxable value in each county.

Esteemed panelists Eric Bryson, Executive Director of the Montana Association of Counties (MACo); Tyler Gernant, Missoula County Clerk and Treasurer; and Doug Reisig, Executive Director of Montana Quality Education Coalition (MQEC) will navigate the audience through the nuances of the state law as well as the recent court cases concerning the 95 mills.

P.S. Please note that our April “State of the Community” forum will be held on Monday, April 15th (3rd Monday of the month). Be sure to watch for details and be sure to register early as we have been known to sell out!
