Montana legislative leaders say tight budget will force tough decisions

The state of the state’s budget is a big enough deal to Senate President Scott Sales, R-Bozeman, that he’s moved around some desk assignments.

"The budget is so important to me that Llew Jones is sitting right here," Sales said, pointing just outside his office door to the spot the Republican senator from Conrad and chairman of the Senate Finance and Claims committee will occupy when Montana’s Legislature convenes at noon Monday.

"I’m not going to say it’s unheard of, but I don’t know of someone sitting that close before," Sales said.
