Anaconda’s Old Works Golf Course may close permanently

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

Without a cash infusion from Atlantic Richfield, the Old Works Golf Course http://www.oldworks.org/index.php in Anaconda may close permanently at the end of this month.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed Old Works Golf says it desperately needs an extended line of credit from Atlantic Richfield.

"In general we’re all hoping that between the county, Atlantic Richfield and the EPA, everyone will recognize that we can’t let the golf course fail during the global settlement negotiations," said Carl Nyman, Superfund coordinator for Anaconda-Deer Lodge County.

The 17-year-old facility serves as a protective cap on top of waste from Anaconda’s first smelting location.
