Missoula’s health care industry generates most local income

The health care industry generated $545 million of labor earnings in Missoula County in 2012, making it by far the largest source of income in the local economy, according to a report from economist Larry Swanson, the director of the O’Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West. Since 2001, the health care industry has grown much more explosively than any other sector in Missoula, increasing by $232 million worth of personal income.
