Montana’s first career academy (Health Science) to open at Missoula’s Big Sky High School

Montana’s first and only career academy will open at Big Sky High School http://www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/bigsky/Home/tabid/547/Default.aspx in the fall, launching a sea change of reforms in the Missoula County Public Schools http://www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/default.aspx district over the next few years.

The Health Science Academy currently being developed by a core group of teachers and Big Sky principal Trevor Laboski further solidifies the "21st century schools" model the district has been pursuing for the past three years.

Though the academy makes no promises about student achievement or college readiness, those behind it are staking the district’s future on its success, as well as other major school reforms within MCPS.

"I think what’s happening at Big Sky is beyond Big Sky," said MCPS Superintendent Alex Apostle. "It’s influencing our culture within the district and outside the community. I think it’s a game-changer."
