Board of Regents to make case for more funding to state lawmakers in person

GLENDIVE (AP) – Regents want to take their case for more state funding on the road, meeting with
state lawmakers outside the sometimes-tense walls of Montana’s Capitol to pitch the university
system as a wise investment for economic development.

The Board of Regents is backing a detailed business plan that lays out such "investment initiatives"
as promoting rural development and investments in technology. It is portraying itself as a key
component in strengthening and further building Montana’s economy.

University system administrators and students also were encouraged to play a role in reaching out to
lawmakers and other state officials.

Higher education officials acknowledged receiving extra money would be difficult given the state’s
current budget problems. But, they said, it is still a good idea to lay out their vision and perhaps
change the perception that some state leaders may have of the university system.
