Use game theory to get ahead in your career
Game theory, which uses mathematical, rational techniques in decision making, has substantial implications for career management, according to management professor Nathan Bennett. Those techniques include considering the motivations and strategies of other "players" — such as your boss — or thinking about where you want to be at a certain age and then working backward to figure out how to get there. "People who apply game theory to their careers make better decisions in the first place and are better equipped to deal with disruptions along the way," Bennett says.
