New Feature Film Slated to Shoot in Montana

South Central Montana is SilverLine Cinema’s top choice for the production of its new feature film Last Man Stands. The Montana Department of Commerce Film Office is working closely with SilverLine to bring the production to Montana.

Last Man Stands is a narrative, feature drama about race relations between Native Americans and the Marine Corps in Hardin, Montana. The film is centered on a teenage boy living outside the Crow Indian Reservation and his desire to become a greater asset to society by joining the Marine Corps. The film explores issues of race, nationality, challenges associated with a rural, ranching lifestyle and the drive to expand culturally and economically.

Filming on the $1.25 million project could start this summer and is contingent upon securing additional financing. Shooting in Montana is estimated to take six to eight weeks to complete. SilverLine will start interviews for entry-level positions this spring. This summer, SilverLine will begin casting for extras and day players from a talent pool of everyday Montana residents.

“To hear that this project is committed to coming Montana is very exciting news. Last Man Stands is a Montana story and a natural fit,” said Anthony Preite, Director of the Montana Department of Commerce. “Film production is valuable business in Montana. It’s clean. It creates high-paying jobs. It supports local businesses and it promotes our beautiful state to a wide audience. Montana’s big sky was made for the big screen.”

Alex Portugal is the creator and director of Last Man Stands. Petra Ahmann (a Laurel, Montana native), is producing the project. Faroukh Mistry is director of photography. The cast will include Jonathan Brewer (Apocalypto) and Larry Holden (Batman Begins). SilverLine is in cast negations with Chris Cooper (American Beauty, Adaptation), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Russell Means (Natural Born Killers), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas) and Wes Studi (Avatar).
