The "Bloom box," a fuel-cell-based energy generator from startup Bloom Energy, is being tested by companies such as Google, Wal-Mart and FedEx. The Bloom box uses oxygen in combination with a range of fuel sources, such as solar energy, biofuel or natural gas, to produce power. The units cost at least $700,000, but the company says a unit with enough juice to power a house could eventually sell for $3,000.
