Governor wants to transform education

Gov. Dave Heineman asked for nothing less than transformation of the state’s education system in Thursday’s State of the State address.

Transformation of learning for everyone from preschool through college to compete in a technology-driven global economy.

He’s chairing the state’s initiative focusing on toddlers through college graduates, called P-16. And by all accounts, his influence has reinvigorated the decade-old initiative.

"I think he has to be given credit for using the auspices of his office and his personal promotion of education in Nebraska for giving P-16 a boost," said state Education Commissioner Roger Breed.
